Importing audio into a computer, so that you can play a digital file, edit it, or use it in a film you’re making, is a multistep process.

  1. First, connect the audio hardware to the Mac and check that it is powered up and playing correctly.
  2. Second, open the Sound panel in System Preferences and check the Input and Output settings to adjust the volume of the recording coming in and out of the Mac.
  3. Third, once you’ve confirmed that the audio you want is streaming in clearly, you are ready to capture it with Audacity.
